Mammoth Head East for Instant Rematch Against Toronto Rock

Seven straight wins for the Colorado Mammoth means the team is now 8-2 on the season, fresh off setting a new franchise record for the longest win streak in Mammoth history. Colorado secured a 16-8 victory over the (5-4) Toronto Rock Saturday night in Denver, following a 13-12 victory on the road against the (4-5) Las Vegas Desert Dogs.

The Mammoth produced 13-plus goals for the fourth-consecutive contest. Andrew Kew starred with 10 points (4 goals, 6 assists), whereas Will Malcom had seven points (2 goals, 5 assists) and Jack Hannah had six points (1 goal, 5 assists). Rookie forward Braedon Saris contributed with 3 goals and 4 assists. Dylan McIntosh (2 goals, 1 assist) and Owen Rahn (1 goal, 1 assist) also scored.

Rookie faceoff specialist Matthew Paolatto won 23-of-28 faceoffs and scored twice, earning a spot in Saturday’s postgame press conference. He also had 14 loose balls.

Mammoth goaltender Dillon Ward stopped 37-of-44 shots in nearly 52 minutes played, while Nathan Whittom made eight saves on nine shots in the final eight minutes.

Veteran Mark Matthews was Toronto’s leading scorer with five points (2 goals, 3 assists). Challen Rogers, Toronto’s captain, had four points (3 goals, 1 assist). Troy Holowchuk and Steve Orleman split time in net for Toronto, with Holowchuk stopping 23-of-32 and Orleman stopping 22-of-29.

Despite the loss, the Toronto Rock remain ranked No. 5 overall with a 5-4 record, with 98 goals for and 98 goals against.

The Colorado Mammoth are ranked No. 2 overall with a 120 goals for through 10 games, averaging 12 goals per game. They are tied for the third-fewest goals allowed at 91.

Andrew Kew leads the Mammoth with 25 goals and is tied for fifth in the league. Will Malcom is tenth with 53 points (20 goals, 33 assists). Dillon Ward is fourth in saves with 399 and second in save percentage at .824, and second in goals-against average at 9.08. Matthew Paolatto is third in faceoff wins with 152 and fifth in faceoff win percentage at 62%.
