A man in his 60s has tragically died following a house fire in Rosemount, Derry, Northern Ireland.The incident occurred at a terraced house on Grafton Street on January 30, 2026.
The Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service (NIFRS) responded to reports of the fire at approximately 11:14 AM. Firefighting crews from Northland Fire Station (two appliances) and Crescent Link Fire station (one appliance) were dispatched to the scene.
Fortunately, the fire had been extinguished prior to the arrival of fire service personnel. Firefighters then focused on ventilating the property and providing first aid to one casualty, assisted by the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service. Despite their efforts, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
An NIFRS spokesperson confirmed that the cause of the fire is currently believed to be accidental. Investigations are ongoing to determine the precise circumstances that led to the incident.
Authorities are reminding the public of the importance of fire safety measures,including ensuring smoke detectors are functioning correctly and having a clear escape plan in the event of a fire.
