MacCormack Sentence Increased on Appeal
Table of Contents
A man identified as maccormack had his original sentence increased after an appeal hearing where judges deemed it “unduly lenient.” MacCormack, appearing in jeans and a gray hoodie, was escorted into court in handcuffs by prison guards. Some of his victims were present in the public gallery during the proceedings.
Appeal Judges Find Original Sentence Too Lenient
The Public Prosecution Service (PPS) successfully argued that the initial sentence was insufficient given the severity of MacCormack’s crimes. the three appeal judges formally agreed, stating the original sentence did not adequately address the harm caused and lacked sufficient deterrent effect.
“This was a case involving a suite of offending against vulnerable women which requires appropriate punishment to deter this type of behaviour in our community and to soundly rebut the attitude of the defendant. Such attitudes have no place in our society,” stated the Lady Chief Justice.
Revised Sentence Announced
The court increased MacCormack’s sentence from seven years to nine years. The revised sentence will be split equally between custody and a period of license (supervised release). This means MacCormack will serve 4.5 years in prison, followed by 4.5 years under supervision.
