Manila Mayor Isko Moreno Allocates Over ₱1 Billion to Barangays Amid Oil Crisis

Manila City Mayor Francisco “Isko” Moreno Domagoso has released a total of ₱1,094,082,181.12 in funds to the city’s 896 barangays, aiming to bolster public services in the face of the ongoing global oil crisis. The allocation, announced during a live broadcast of the program “Talk To The People,” includes ₱25,411,000 from barangay clearance collections and ₱1,068,671,181.12 sourced from Real Property Tax (RPT) revenues [1].

Strengthening Barangay Capacity

Mayor Moreno emphasized that the approved budgets are intended to strengthen the capacity of barangays to deliver essential services to residents, particularly as the global oil crisis, triggered by unrest in the Middle East, continues to impact the economy [1]. He encouraged local officials to consider initiatives that align with national development priorities, stating, “Sa mga barangay, kayo ay may approved budget na, think of other things na maaring makatulong in line with the national goal.”

Isko Moreno’s Political Background

Francisco “Isko” Moreno Domagoso, born on October 24, 1974, is currently serving as the 27th and 29th Mayor of Manila, having assumed office on June 30, 2025 [1]. Prior to his current role, he served as Vice Mayor of Manila from 2007 to 2016 and as a member of the Manila City Council from 1998 to 2007 [1]. He is also the current President of Aksyon Demokratiko, a position he has held since August 12, 2021 [1].
