Marcos Jr. Hosts Grand Iftar, Strengthening Ties with Bangsamoro Region
Cotabato City – President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. Hosted a Grand Iftar at the Heroes Hall of Malacañang Palace on March 12, 2026, marking an unprecedented gesture of partnership with leaders from the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM). The event, celebrating the breaking of the daily fast during Ramadan, signifies the national government’s strong support for the faith, culture, and aspirations of the Bangsamoro people.
A First for Malacañang Palace
Leaders from the BARMM expressed gratitude for the President’s decision to host the Iftar at the Palace, a departure from previous administrations. During the Duterte administration, Iftar ceremonies were held at hotels in Metro Manila and Davao City as reported by The Manila Times. An official from the BARMM’s Dar’ul Ifta noted that the rendering of the adhan (call to prayer) at Malacañang Palace during the event was a historic first .
Commitment to Peace and Governance
President Marcos reaffirmed his government’s commitment to supporting the BARMM’s transition to a regular Parliamentary-style governance. He emphasized the importance of peace and creating opportunities for the Bangsamoro people and all Filipinos as stated by the Presidential Communications Office. “Peace must not exist only in signed agreements. it must be felt in everyday life,” the President said.
Gratitude and Transition Plans
BARMM interim Chief Minister Abdulraof Macacua expressed sincere gratitude for the President’s continued support of the Bangsamoro peace process. He also acknowledged the approval of bills fixing the date of the first BARMM Parliament polls for September 14, 2026, and allowing the Bangsamoro Transition Authority to continue serving as the interim government until newly elected officials assume office on October 30, 2026 .
A Token of Appreciation
During the event, Macacua presented President Marcos with a finely crafted wooden frame engraved with the President’s image and the official seal of Bagong Pilipinas .

The Grand Iftar 2026 served as a symbol of solidarity between Muslim and non-Muslim Filipinos, highlighting the administration’s commitment to peacebuilding and inclusive nation-building .
