Man Fatally Injured in Newtownards, Three Arrested

A man has tragically lost his life in Newtownards, Northern Ireland, after being found unconscious with head injuries. Police have launched a murder investigation, leading to the arrest of three individuals.

Victim Identified and Post-Mortem Scheduled

The victim has been identified as 50-year-old Mark Dorrian. Police found him unconscious at a property in the West Street area just before 1:50 am on Thursday, December 26th. He later died in hospital.

A post-mortem examination will take place to determine the exact cause of death.

Arrests Made in Connection with the Murder

Three people – two women aged 58 and 33 and a 36-year-old man – were arrested on suspicion of murder. They remain in police custody as detectives continue their investigation.

Police have been granted a 36-hour extension to question the suspects.

Local Councillor Urges Community Cooperation

Local Alliance Party councillor Alan McDowell expressed shock at the tragedy and urged anyone with information to come forward.

“The town is in a state of shock right now,” he said. “My thoughts and sympathies are with the victim’s family and loved ones at what’s sure to be an unthinkably difficult time. I would implore anyone with any information that may help police in their investigations to please get in touch with them, or report it anonymously via Crimestoppers.”

Detective Chief Inspector Neil McGuinness, leading the investigation, said:

“A murder investigation was launched after a report was received that a man was unconscious inside a flat in the West Street area, just before 1.50am on Thursday, 26th December.

Mark sadly died later in hospital having sustained a number of injuries, including head injuries.

My thoughts at this time are first and foremost with Mark’s friends and family. Our investigation is at an early stage and inquiries are ongoing to establish the exact circumstances.”
