A man and a 15-year-old boy have been charged following the shooting of former National Rugby League (NRL) player Matt Utai in Greenacre, Sydney, on Tuesday. Police believe the shooting was an attack targeting Utai’s son, Iziah Utai, amid escalating tensions in Sydney’s underworld.

Matt Utai, who played for the Wests Tigers and Canterbury Bulldogs, was shot in the leg and shoulder outside a home in Greenacre. He was transported to a hospital and remains in serious condition. Police responded to the scene and initiated an investigation.

Arrests Made

On Friday evening, a 25-year-old man was arrested in Marsden Park and a 15-year-old boy was arrested in Emerton. Both have been charged with shooting with intent to murder and participating in a criminal group contributing to criminal activity.
