Understanding Measles and Prevention
Measles is a highly contagious viral illness. It spreads easily through the air when an infected person coughs or sneezes. The CDC states that measles is so contagious that if one person has it, 90% of the people close to that person who aren’t immune will also become infected.
The most effective way to protect yourself and others from measles is through vaccination. The CDC recommends that children receive two doses of the MMR (measles, mumps, and rubella) vaccine.Adults who have not been vaccinated or who are unsure of their vaccination status should also consult with their healthcare provider.
