Metejoor Revamps Opening Theme for 35th Anniversary of ‘Familie’
Flemish pop star Metejoor has written a brand-new opening theme song and recorded backing vocals with his sister Lisa for the 35th anniversary of the long-running VTM soap opera Family. The updated sequence features a modern sound, backing vocals from Lisa under her stage name LEEZ, and refreshed summer visuals incorporating both veteran cast members and newer additions.
Both the television series and the singer were born in 1991, establishing a parallel history that inspired the collaboration. Metejoor recalled watching the show daily with his sister during childhood before the tradition faded when they entered secondary school.
VTM Schedules New Theme Song and Visual Intro Debut
The new theme song, titled “Vertel me wat je voelt,” centers on the desire for genuine affection and familial support. Alongside the new audio, the opening credits receive a visual overhaul with a summer aesthetic. Viewers will see established cast members such as Véronique, Kiki, and Lars alongside newer characters like Victor and Claudine.
VTM scheduled the premiere of the new intro for Friday, November 6. Subscribers can stream the updated sequence a day early on VTM GO+ starting Saturday, November 7, before it rolls out during the regular broadcast on Monday, November 9. The song will play at the start of every weekday episode at 20:00 on VTM.
Continuing a VTM Musical Tradition
The collaboration marks a partnership in a series of artist collaborations for the soap’s opening. VTM previously enlisted Niels Destadsbader for “Als we samen zijn” in 2019 and Camille for “Kleur” in 2022.
For Metejoor, bringing his sister onto the track as LEEZ added personal significance to the project. The sibling collaboration honors the central theme of family that runs through both the show’s history and their own childhood memories of watching the series together.
