Microsoft Details AI Roadmap for Visual Studio

Microsoft shared a roadmap for AI integration within its IDE, Visual Studio, as of November 2025. The roadmap outlines current and planned work focused on AI-powered agentic experiences, aiming to provide developers with smarter, faster, and more intuitive tools. Microsoft clarified that these items represent plans, not guaranteed deliveries for this month.

The company plans to streamline the user experience for finding and switching between modes, and also explore support for more complex workflows. Investigated agents and concurrency features include user-created custom agents, a test agent,a debugger agent, and the ability to run multiple Visual Studio Agents concurrently.

Microsoft also works on improvements to Agent Mode and Chat, based on community feedback. Planned features include slash commands for prompt invocation and chat management, enhanced memories to apply custom instructions globally,and tool calling improvements like dynamic tool calling.
