A school librarian in western Massachusetts is facing a child pornography charge.

The U.S. attorney’s office said Wednesday that 55-year-old Scott McGinley of Holyoke was charged with one count of distribution of child pornography.

McGinley is a librarian for two middle schools in Longmeadow.

Prosecutors said he kept items for children locked in a case that was stored in his basement. They said the case included bedding, underwear, diapers, diaper cream and a Santa costume.

McGinley’s accused of distributing so-called child sexual abuse material to a group called “Little boyz only” by an encrypted messenger app in July.

“When contacted by undercover law enforcement posing as a fellow user on the app, McGinley allegedly disclosed his sexual preference for ‘boys age 2-12’ and ‘especially 4-7,'” prosecutors said in a release.

“It is further alleged that, in the conversations with undercover law enforcement, McGinley stated he had ‘students’ who were ’11-14 years old’ but, ‘ha[d]n’t touched them sexually,’ and that he sat ‘hot boys strategically so [he could] see under their desks, and close to [him],’ and made graphic sexual statements about the boys,” prosecutors said.

The U.S. attorney said two iPhones, a smart watch, a tablet and two laptops were seized during a search.

Prosecutors said investigators found over 100 files depicting child sexual abuse on McGinley’s phone. Other devices were being examined.

“A locked Pelican case was recovered in the basement which is alleged to have contained a medley of items for children approximately five to seven years old – including but not limited to, assorted children’s clothes, a Santa costume, diapers, diaper cream and apple sauce packets,” the release said. “The Pelican case also allegedly contained a toolbox with boys’ underwear and bedding stuffed inside.”

The U.S. Attorney for Massachusetts said anyone with questions, concerns or information about the McGinley case should call 617-748-3274.
