Celebrities Among Those Impacted by Devastating L.A. Wildfires
Several celebrities, including Milo Ventimiglia and Mandy Moore, have shared their experiences losing their homes in the raging wildfires that are currently impacting Southern California. The fires, fueled by strong Santa Ana winds, have torn through neighborhoods, leaving behind destruction and heartbreak.
Milo Ventimiglia’s Malibu Home Lost
“This Is Us” star Milo Ventimiglia revealed that his Malibu home was destroyed in the Palisades Fire. Ventimiglia and his pregnant wife, Jarah Mariano, were forced to evacuate their home, watching helplessly as flames engulfed their residence on security cameras.
“I think there’s a kind of shock moment where you’re going, ‘Oh, this is real and this is happening,’ and then at a certain point, we just turn it off,” he said. “It’s like, what good is it to continue watching, you know. We kind of accepted the loss.”
Adding to the tragedy, the couple was expecting their first child at any time and had already prepared the nursery. Ventimiglia shared his emotional struggle returning to the charred remains of his home, recalling memories of cherished moments and expressing compassion for his neighbors who had also suffered devastating losses.
Mandy Moore’s Altadena Home Battered
Ventimiglia’s co-star, Mandy Moore, also shared the devastating news of losing her Altadena home in the Eaton Fire. On Instagram, Moore expressed her shock and devastation, acknowledging the profound loss experienced by many in her community.
“This is Altadena. Leveled. My sweet home,” she wrote on Instagram. “I am devastated and gutted for those of us who’ve lost so much. I’m absolutely numb.”
Though her home was damaged, Moore and her family miraculously escaped harm. She later shared a heartfelt update, emphasizing the overwhelming sense of loss felt by the community but also a determination to rebuild and support those affected by the fire.
On Thursday, Moore returned to her neighborhood and walked up the street to witness “all the loss.” She added in her post, “Miraculously, the main part of our house is still standing. For now. It’s not livable but mostly intact,” she said, sharing photos of what remains of her family home. “Everyone we know lost everything. Every house on our street is gone. My in laws. My brother and sister in law- 6 weeks from welcoming their first baby. Our best friends. Feeling weird survivors guilt. We love this community and will do everything we can to help rebuild and support.”
Other Hollywood stars who have confirmed losing their homes in the L.A. wildfires include Jeff Bridges, Billy Crystal, Anna Faris, Cary Elwes, Paris Hilton, Bozoma Saint John, Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag, James Woods, Diane Warren, Cameron Mathison and Ricki Lake, among others
Ongoing Fire Threat
The wildfires, named the Palisades, Eaton, Woodley, Lidia, and Hurst wildfires, continue to burn across Southern California. The situation remains volatile due to dry conditions and gusty winds. Governors and emergency officials urge residents to heed evacuation orders and stay informed.
As of Thursday evening, Gov. Gavin Newsom said the Palisades Fire was 6 percent contained. Two other active wildfires in the L.A. area — the Eaton and Woodley fires — are also at zero percent containment. The Lidia fire is 40 percent contained, and the Hurst fire is 10 percent contained, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.
With several fires encroaching on populated areas, the situation remains extremely dangerous. Authorities are working tirelessly to contain the blazes and protect lives and property.
