“The rush of adrenaline is unbelievable,” shared Mo Byeoli of team Korea, beaming.
Byeoli, alongside teammates Park Jihee, Kim Hoyeon, and Sim Soeun, continued their momentum, decisively winning the gold medal final against Italy with a score of 45-26.
For Mo, the journey to the final represented more than just medal contention; it was a festivity of an unexpected path in athletics.
From Diving Board to Foil
Currently ranked 66th globally by the International Fencing Federation,Mo has established herself as a consistent performer,regularly earning accolades at international tournaments.
Though, fencing wasn’t her initial sporting passion. Before picking up a foil, Mo excelled in a fully different arena: diving. “My older sister was a fencer, and she really inspired me to try the sport,” she explained.
Mo ultimately transitioned from diving, finding it less demanding than her current discipline, and dedicated herself fully to foil.”Fencing really helps me concentrate,” she said. “Plus, I thrive on a challenge. The one-on-one competition is much more engaging than diving.”
In another gold medal match on the penultimate day of fencing, japan secured a narrow victory over Hungary, 45-44, in the men’s épée team final.
