King Mohamed VI of Morocco thanked in a letter addressed to the lieutenant colonel Juan Saldana of the Military Emergency Unit (UME) the “active” participation of the Spanish contingent in the rescue tasks of the victims of the earthquake that hit the south of the country on the 8th and caused almost 3,000 deaths.

The monarch described the work of the Spanish troops as “active and effective”, according to the official Moroccan agency MAP.

“I have been deeply moved (by these efforts) as well as the entire Moroccan people,” said the monarch, who also expressed his “great pride and appreciation of this generous participation that embodies the deep ties of solid friendship and solidarity that unites the Spanish and Moroccan peoples”.

In the letter, Mohamed VI reiterated “his personal gratitude” and that of the Moroccan people to all the members of the Spanish contingent who with their “courage and altruism showed the depth of the feelings of sincere affection and active solidarity that they feel for their second country.”

A total of 112 members of Spanish rescue teams (including members of the UME) and 22 dogs have participated in the rescue work after the strong earthquake of a magnitude of 6.8, which caused almost 3,000 deaths and more than 5,000 injuries. .
