Although this year’s summer weather does not want us much, we should not give up the hope of extraordinary phenomena in the sky. Now in August they are Perseids, a meteor swarm that the country passes from 17 July to 24 August. The peak of Perseid comes at night between the 12th and 13th August. And the next heavenly phenomenon this year will be a complete lunar eclipse.

It is the first such significant eclipse observable from the Czech Republic since January 2019, ie after more than six years. This year, however, brings two complete eclipses to night sky lovers. The first of them took place in the spring, from the evening of 13th March to the early morning hours 14. March 2025. However, visibility in our country was very limited. Observers in the Czech Republic saw only the semi -shaped phase. The best conditions for the spring eclipse of the moon were in North America.

As the lunar eclipse occurs

The lunar eclipse is an impressive heavenly phenomenon that is not only interested in astronomers. It also has its observers in the ranks of the ordinary population. By the time the Earth reaches the sun and the moon, its shadow envelops the lunar disc and turns it into a dark red disc. This phenomenon is known as a bloody month. Although the phenomenon takes place regularly, we can rarely see it from our territory.

But this time it will be different. Whether you observe the lunar eclipse with the naked eye or watch using a telescope, it will offer you a moment of reflection on it As we are connected to the whole universe. The lunar eclipse also reminds of constant and infallible movements of space bodies.

An extraordinary astronomical phenomenon, ie a complete eclipse of the moon, will occur on Sunday, September 7, 2025. And it will be gradually visible throughout the territory of our republic. We will have a unique opportunity to see how the moon gradually sinks into the earth’s shadow and turns into a dark red object.

From partial to complete eclipse

This relatively long complete eclipse can be seen on Sunday after sunset. The conditions for its observation will vary according to the observer’s position, the more to the east, the better. During the east of the month, the advanced phase of the eclipse will take place. The partial eclipse will begin at 18:27 CEST, at a time when the Czech Republic will be under the horizon in the Czech Republic.

The complete eclipse of the moon will begin at 19:30 CEST very low above the eastern horizon. This phase will be more difficult to observe. In the Czech Republic, the moon will only be released at the beginning of the complete eclipse and you will have to wait for a larger darkness. They will be better off in Slovakia. The maximum phase of the eclipse then falls at 20:11 CEST. At this time, we should see the red moon in a bright sky at least telescopically and certainly photographically in the west of Bohemia.

How will the twilight continue and The moon will gradually rise during a complete eclipse above the horizon, We’ll see him as a nao -rim disk. In the attached video you will learn both the March eclipse and the IO of the September. If you are only interested in a month in September, turn the record to 8:21.

Where and how the lunar eclipse

At the end of the complete eclipse that occurs at 20:52, the Moon will be above the east-south-east horizon. The total eclipse will take 1 hours 22 minutes and 6 seconds. It will therefore be one of the longest complete eclipses in this decade. Two planets will be located not far from the darkened full moon: With the eyes of the visible Saturn and a small telescope you will see Neptune.

The September eclipse will be visible to the naked eye and it will be a great spectacle for photography. You should go into the countryside for this experience, it will be worth it. Grab a sleeping bag, a thermos with tea and set out on the 7th. September watch the space performance in the night sky. Do not miss this unique phenomenon. And until then, there is no choice but to want a good weather with a clear sky.

Another complete eclipse of the moon, which will be observable in our country, will take place only on New Year’s Eve in 2028. And in 2029 this phenomenon should appear in the Czech Republic even twice, in June and December.
