Morgan Wallen Pleads Guilty to Reckless Endangerment Charges
Country music superstar Morgan Wallen reportedly appeared in court on Thursday and pleaded guilty to two misdemeanor counts of reckless endangerment. The charges stem from an incident in April where Wallen allegedly threw a chair off the roof of a Nashville bar, narrowly missing two police officers.
Sentencing and Legal Proceedings
Judge Cynthia Chappell sentenced Wallen to serve seven days in a DUI education center and placed him on supervised probation for two years. When asked how he would plead, Wallen stated “Conditionally guilty” at the Justice AA Birch Building in Nashville.
Details of the April Incident
According to the arrest affidavit, Wallen was accused of throwing a chair from the roof of Chief’s bar on April 7th. The chair landed about a meter from the officers who were on the scene. Police interviewed witnesses and reviewed security footage which reportedly corroborate the officers’ accounts. Witnesses claimed to have seen Wallen pick up a chair, throw it off the roof, and subsequently laugh about it.
Wallen’s Statement and Legal Representation
Following the incident, Wallen released a statement acknowledging “responsibility” for his actions and stating he was “not proud” of his behavior. While the statement refrained from offering an apology, it mentioned making “amends” and contacting law enforcement. Wallen’s lawyer, Worrick Robinson, issued a separate statement emphasizing the singer’s full cooperation with authorities and his direct communication and apology to those involved. Robinson also highlighted that upon successful completion of probation, the charges could be dismissed and expunged.
Continued Success Despite Controversy
Despite the legal controversy, Wallen remains a major force in contemporary country music. Just last month, he was named the Country Music Association Awards’ entertainer of the year.
