When goverment buildings in Nepal were burnt down, adn Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and senior officials were forced to resign, plunging the Himalayan nation into chaos following massive protests, the gen Z protesters turned to a youth-savvy channel to choose their next leader – a social media platform named Discord. It’s the same Discord popular among gamers for trading strategies.

The curfew in Nepal has now been lifted, and the nation has a new interim Prime Minister – Sushila Karki, Nepal’s former and first woman chief justice. At 73, she’s from a generation far removed from those who led the protests, but that’s the choice they made, and they made it thru Discord.

What is Discord?

Discord, launched in 2015, is a communication platform originally built for gamers. It allowed them to communicate with each other without leaving the game. Discord describes itself as “great for playing games and chilling with friends, or even building a worldwide community.”
