A New Orchid Species Discovered in Indonesia’s Tropical Rainforest

A stunning new orchid species, named Trichoglottis Najibii, has been discovered in the tropical rainforests of East Kalimantan, Indonesia. This rare find made headlines at the Floriculture Indonesia International (FLOII) Expo 2024, held at the Indonesia Convention Exhibition (ICE) BSD in Tangerang, Banten.

Unique Characteristics of the Trichoglottis Najibii Orchid

The Trichoglottis najibii orchid thrives at an altitude of 300-500 meters above sea level. Its distinctive features include lateral lobes on the labellum attached to the column and unique, 8-9 mm long curved cylindrical spurs. These characteristics make it a truly unique and captivating addition to the world of orchids.

Honoring the Discoverer

Yuda R. Yudistira, one of the discoverers, shared in a statement on Sunday, “We have named this species Trichoglottis najibii in honor of the discovery. We hope to introduce it to the public through exhibitions like FLOII Expo 2024.”
