India Gears Up for World Squash Team Championships 2024 in Hong Kong

India’s squash contingent is poised to make its mark at the prestigious World Squash Team Championships 2024, scheduled from December 9 to 15 in Hong Kong China.

This year’s tournament holds special significance as it marks the first time Hong Kong China hosts the event and the inaugural edition featuring both men’s and women’s competitions concurrently.

Shining Young Star Anahat Singh Leads Women’s Squad

The Indian women’s team boasts an impressive lineup, led by the immensely talented 16-year-old Anahat Singh. Witnessing a phenomenal year, Anahat secured eight PSA Challenger titles and broke into the top 100 of the world rankings.

"India’s star squash player," Akanksha Salunkhe, the world No. 70, spearheads the women’s squad alongside Anahat, Urwashi Joshi, and Nirupama Dubey.

Abhay Singh Anchors Experienced Men’s Team

Veteran Abhay Singh, who triumphed alongside Anahat in the mixed doubles bronze at the Asian Games in Hangzhou last year, will lead the men’s team. Accompanying him are national champion Velavan Senthilkumar** (world No. 45) and Veer Chotrani and Suraj Kumar Chand.

While India’s top-ranked men’s singles player, Ramit Tandon (world No. 32), won’t be competing in Hong Kong, Abhay’s recent victories, including the Tuanku Muhriz Trophy, solidify India’s ambitions.

A Historic Tournament

A total of 195 top players from 29 countries will compete in the World Squash Team Championships 2024.

The tournament will be contested in a six-pool format (women) and eight-pool format (men), culminating in a multi-match draw to determine final rankings.

India has been drawn in Group F of the men’s tournament alongside Colombia and Ireland. In the women’s tournament, they face Italy, Colombia, and Belgium in Group C.

Australia and Egypt hold the most dominant records, aiming to defend their titles.
