Uber Driver Killed in South Jersey Crash; Driver Was Reportedly in the Country Illegally
WEST DEPTFORD, N.J. — Newly released surveillance and dashcam videos depict the moments before a fatal crash in West Deptford, New Jersey, on November 9, which resulted in the death of Uber driver Jose Martinez, 42, of Lindenwold. The driver responsible, identified as 24-year-old George Linard, a British citizen, was allegedly in the country illegally and provided a false identification to police after the incident.
Details of the Crash
According to the New Jersey Office of the Attorney General, the crash occurred near the intersection of Red Bank and Hessian avenues in Gloucester County. Surveillance footage shows Linard’s vehicle running a red light and colliding with Martinez’s car. Prior to the crash, police had received a report of two intoxicated individuals and were attempting to stop a vehicle matching the description driven by Linard. Linard allegedly sped away from officers, leading to the fatal collision.
Injuries and Charges
Jose Martinez was pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger sustained a leg fracture. Linard has been indicted by a Gloucester County grand jury on multiple charges, including two counts of aggravated manslaughter, eluding, death by auto, four counts of aggravated assault, and fraudulent possession of a government license. Ongoing Investigation
