Officers with the Columbus Division of Police were called around 8:40 p.m. in the 1900 block of Brimfield Road on a report of a shooting.
COLUMBUS, Ohio — A teenage boy was seriously injured in a shooting Saturday night in north Columbus, police said.
Columbus Division of Police Commander Paul Szabo told 10TV officers were called around 8:40 p.m. to the area of Brimfield and Beechcroft roads on a report of a shooting.
Police believe there was an exchange of gunfire between multiple parties, resulting in the teen being struck, according to Szabo. A large area of multiple spent shell casings, down at least three streets, were reportedly found at the scene.
The teen was taken to Nationwide Children’s Hospital in critical condition but has since been upgraded to “stable” condition, Szabo said. A Columbus public safety dispatcher confirmed with 10TV he is 14 years old.
Szabo said the shooting is believed to have happened outside, though the teen was inside a residence when officers arrived.
At least one house and a car were reportedly hit during the incident. Police is holding that car while the investigation remains ongoing, Szabo said. It is unclear at this time if that car was involved in the shooting.
A 10TV crew observed around 10 Columbus police cruisers and at least one K-9 at the scene.
There is no active threat to the public at this time, Szabo said.
According to Szabo, no one is in custody at this time. No additional details about a possible suspect were immediately available.
The area of Beechcroft Road near Walden Park is currently closed as authorities investigate.
The shooting remains under investigation.
