Shower Chances Sunday, Warm Next Week
AMERICAN FLORISTS. AND IF PEOPLE ARE CELEBRATING VALENTINE’S DAY AND HEADING OUT RIGHT NOW, WHAT’S THE WEATHER LIKE? THEY GOT TO LOVE THIS AFTERNOON. IT WAS GORGEOUS WITH SUNSHINE AND TEMPERATURES FOUND THEIR WAY INTO THE 50S. OFFICIALLY, 51 GOES IN THE BOOKS AS THE HIGH TEMPERATURE FROM THIS AFTERNOON ACTUALLY OVERPERFORMED. EVEN WHAT WE WERE ANTICIPATING BY A FEW DEGREES. AND WE WILL STAY WELL ABOVE AVERAGE OVER THE COURSE OF THE NEXT SEVERAL DAYS. TOMORROW, NOT AS WARM AS IT WAS THIS AFTERNOON DUE TO MORE CLOUDS AND LIGHT RAIN SHOWERS. 44 BUT WE SHOULD BE BACK IN THAT TERRITORY 50 BY MONDAY AND WELL INTO THE MID 50S. THE MIDDLE PART OF THE WEEK, 55 ON TUESDAY AND 57 ON WEDNESDAY. SO THE THAW WILL CONTINUE FOR THE FORESEEABLE FUTURE. RIGHT NOW, TEMPERATURES RANGING FROM 39 IN INDIANA, 43 IN GREENSBURG, 46 IN MONROEVILLE, 48 STILL IN PITTSBURGH AND 46 RIGHT NOW IN WASHINGTON. AND SKIES HAVE TURNED MOSTLY CLOUDY ACROSS THE AREA. LOOK BACK TOWARD THE SOUTH AND WEST TOWARD THE LOWER LEFT HAND PORTION OF YOUR SCREEN SHOWS A LITTLE MOISTURE AROUND THE CINCINNATI AREA THAT’S NOT REACHING THE GROUND. AIR MASS IS STILL PRETTY DRY, AND THE OVERALL TRACK OF THIS NEXT STORM SYSTEM IS GOING TO BE WELL TO OUR SOUTH. WE’RE GOING TO BE ON THE NORTHERN FRINGE OF SOME OF THAT MOISTURE. SO ANY PRECIPITATION HERE TOMORROW SHOULD BE OF A LIGHT VARIETY. AND IT’S GOING TO BE SOMEWHAT LOCATION DEPENDENT, I THINK, FROM ALLEGHENY COUNTY ON SOUTH IS WHERE MOST OF THE LIGHT RAIN WILL FALL FOR PERIOD TOMORROW AFTERNOON. AS WE APPROACH TOMORROW MORNING, TEMPERATURES DOWN TOWARD THE MID AND UPPER 30S, AND THEN THROUGH THE DAY. WE SHOULD INCH OUR WAY BACK TOWARD THAT LOW MID 40 DEGREE RANGE WITH, EXCUSE ME, LIGHT RAIN SHOWERS DEVELOPING BY MID-MORNING AND CONTINUING INTO SCATTERED FASHION AS WE HEAD THROUGH THE AFTERNOON BEFORE WRAPPING UP BY LATE IN THE DAY TOMORROW. HERE’S THE WAY IT LOOKS ON FUTURECAST 730 TOMORROW MORNING. YOU’LL NOTICE SOME RAIN SHOWERS, MAINLY SOUTH OF I-70. THEY’LL EXPAND A LITTLE FURTHER NORTH AS WE APPROACH THE EARLY PART OF THE AFTERNOON. AGAIN, I THINK THE CUTOFF LINE IS ALLEGHENY COUNTY AND POINTS TO THE SOUTH BEFORE THINGS THEN TAPER OFF BY TOMORROW EVENING AND TOMORROW NIGHT, AND DRIER CONDITIONS RETURN TO START THINGS OFF NEXT WEEK, ALONG WITH THE RETURN OF SOME SUNSHINE AND RAIN TOTALS. NOT OVERLY IMPRESSIVE IN MOST CASES, A 10TH OF AN INCH OR LESS COULD GET SLIGHTLY HIGHER AMOUNTS. APPROACHING THE MORGANTOWN AREA OF AROUND A THIRD OF AN INCH. SO 44 TOMORROW, NEAR 50 ON MONDAY, WELL INTO THE 50S, TUESDAY AND WEDNESDAY. WE SHOUL
Clouds increase tonight with light shower chances returning tomorrow. Rain totals will be minimal with highest amounts around .25″ near Morgantown.Mild WeekendAbpve average temps will continue through the end of the weekend. Average highs for mid February run around 39 degrees…we should be 4-5 degrees above that value on Sunday and then much milder next week.Light Showers SundayWe continue to watch a storm system that will pass to our south on Sunday but will bring some light rain to the region. Light showers are expected to reach Allegheny county and point south by mid morning. Everyone will get the cloud cover and because we are on the northern fringe of this storm, the farther south you are located, the rain totals will be slightly higher, approaching .25″ before the showers wrap up by sunset. Thaw Continues into Next WeekThe thaw will really take off next week. High temperatures will push near 50 Monday and surge into the 50s the rest of the week. A more rapid melt could elevate concerns for ice jams and minor flooding, especially as our low temperatures stay above freezing late week. A couple of systems will pass near the area that could mean afew showers Wednesday and Friday.TONIGHT: Mostly cloudy. Low: 34°.SUNDAY: Cloudy with rain showers, especially south and east. High: 44°, low: 34°.PRESIDENTS DAY: Patchy AM fog, partly sunny. High: 50°, low: 35°.
