At Korein childcare locations in the Eindhoven region, Nutrilon food is no longer given to children for the time being, because it may contain the toxic substance cereulide. Children who ingest the substance may experience vomiting, abdominal pain and diarrhea.

The childcare center with more than a hundred branches in the Brainport region of Eindhoven and North Limburg asks parents to bring bottle feeding from a different brand from Monday. “If we have a Nutrilon product for your child at the location, we will return the product to you,” the childcare center writes in a letter to parents.

Korein indicates that the safety and health of children always comes first and that is why they make this decision. The childcare center also decided on Friday to store the indoor toys with play sand, because they may contain asbestos.

As soon as the Dutch Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA) comes up with new information and advice, the childcare center says it will look at it. It is not clear whether other childcare organizations in the province will also stop providing Nutrilon food.

Previous recalls
The European food authority EFSA decided on Monday to lower the limit value for the presence of cereulide in bottle food for babies. On this basis, after consultation with the NVWA, Danone initiated a voluntary recall of fourteen Nutrilon products on Friday.

Danone emphasizes that the baby food still in stores after the recall is safe.

Nutrilon food was also previously recalled in other European countries. The company Nestlé also recalled two products in many European countries at the beginning of January because one of the ingredients used may contain cereulide. The contaminated ingredient came from China.
