Dolly Parton Returns to Public Life, Shares Health Update After Grief and ‘Little Health Issues’

Dollywood, Tennessee – Country music icon Dolly Parton made her first major public appearance in months on Friday, March 13, 2026, at the opening day celebration for her Dollywood theme park’s 41st season. The appearance marked a return to the spotlight following a period of private health concerns and grief over the loss of her husband, Carl Dean.

Addressing Health and Grief

Parton addressed the audience, acknowledging she had postponed her Las Vegas residency in September 2025 due to “a few little health issues.” She assured fans that she is “taking good care” of herself and is now “back to normal.” The singer explained that she had been “worn down and worn out, grieving over Carl and a lot of other little things going on,” requiring her to focus on rebuilding herself “spiritually, emotionally, and physically.”

A Year After Loss

The appearance came nearly a year after the death of her husband of 58 years, Carl Dean, who passed away in March 2025. Parton shared her enduring love for Dean, stating, “I don’t feel I’ll ever be married. I think Carl Dean’s waiting for me on the other side. And if I should show up at the pearly gates with somebody else, he would not like that.” She jokingly added that Dean would question anyone accompanying her, saying, “Who’s that little pisser? You depart him outside the gates.”

Looking Ahead: New Projects and No Dating

Despite the recent challenges, Parton emphasized she is far from slowing down. She confirmed she is “not dating anybody” and is actively engaged in several new projects, including her upcoming Broadway musical, Dolly: A True Original Musical. “I’ve just been doing a lot of writing, a lot of thinking, a lot of praying and a lot of getting ready for a lot of new stuff coming up for the rest of this whole year,” she shared. “So, be ready for me. I ain’t done, I ain’t near done.”

Dollywood Celebration

Parton’s return was met with enthusiasm at Dollywood, where she celebrated the theme park’s 41st season. She appeared in good spirits, sporting her signature blonde hairstyle and a dazzling outfit. MSN and E! Online both reported on the event, highlighting Parton’s positive outlook and continued dedication to her work.
