Oasis Reunion: A Bitter Pill to Swallow?
The long-awaited Oasis reunion promised a nostalgic trip back to the Britpop glory days. But for many fans, the reality has been a bitter disappointment, marred by exorbitant ticket prices, questionable support acts, and a deafening silence from the band themselves.
The Dynamic Pricing Debacle
The excitement surrounding the reunion was palpable when news broke. Fans dug out their old t-shirts, reminisced about their teenage years, and eagerly awaited the chance to see their heroes perform live again. However, the dream turned sour on August 31st when the infamous ‘dynamic pricing’ model was revealed. Prices skyrocketed, leaving many fans feeling cheated and disillusioned.
As John Lydon famously said before he unexpectedly flounced off stage at the Sex Pistols’ final gig, ‘Ever get the feeling you’ve been cheated?’
The move sparked outrage, with fans taking to social media to express their disappointment. Even those who didn’t manage to secure tickets felt the sting of this blatant price-gouging tactic.

The band’s silence on the issue was deafening. Liam, a vocal presence on X, remained conspicuously quiet. Not even the announcement of the North American tour, where dynamic pricing wouldn’t apply, elicited an apology or acknowledgement of the backlash.
A Missed Opportunity for New Talent
Adding insult to injury, the support acts announced last week further fueled fan discontent. Richard Ashcroft, a long-time friend of the Gallaghers, is understandable, but the inclusion of 1990s Britpop band Cast, along with Shed Seven and Kula Shaker, raised eyebrows.
Many pointed out the missed opportunity to showcase emerging Irish talent. Even legendary Irish band The Wolfe Tones expressed their willingness to support, highlighting the potential for a platform to launch new artists. Instead, the Gallaghers opted for their own circle, leaving fans feeling like an afterthought.
Liam’s Defensive Response
Liam eventually addressed the criticism on X, claiming there are “LEVELS” to the music industry and dismissing the concerns of fans. He even pointed to his son’s band Villanelle supporting him on his recent tour, but this weak justification failed to appease the doubters.
A Taste of Disappointment?
As John Lydon once famously declared, ‘Ever get the feeling you’ve been cheated?’ For some fans, the answer may already be a resounding yes. Will the reunion gigs live up to the hype, or will it be a case of ‘Standing on the Shoulders of Giants’ or, as another Sex Pistols title suggests, ‘The Great Rock ‘n’ Roll Swindle’? Only time will tell.
