Old Dominion University Shooting: One Dead, Two Wounded
A shooting at Old Dominion University (ODU) in Norfolk, Virginia, on Thursday morning resulted in one fatality and injuries to two others, according to university police. The incident prompted a campus lockdown and the cancellation of classes.
Details of the Shooting
ODU Police Chief Garrett Shelton confirmed at a news conference that one of the three victims injured had died. Authorities also learned that a third victim had independently sought medical attention at a hospital. The two remaining victims are reported to be in stable condition .
Two of the wounded individuals have been identified as members of the Army Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) at ODU. Lieutenant Colonel Jimmy Delongchamp, public information officer for the US Army Cadet Command at Fort Knox, Kentucky, stated that coordination with the university and law enforcement is ongoing .
Campus Response and Safety
Within an hour of the shooting, ODU declared the campus safe, stating there was no longer a threat. Classes were cancelled, and all operations on the main campus were suspended until Friday. The university urged individuals to avoid the area around Constant Hall while emergency officials continued their work.
Counseling and food services remained available to students and staff. ODU President Brian Hemphill expressed gratitude for the swift emergency response and offered condolences to those affected .
