Orlando Bloom on ‘Pirates of the Caribbean 6’: Hopes for a Full Cast Reunion
Orlando Bloom, best known for his roles in blockbusters like “Pirates of the Caribbean” and “The Lord of the Rings,” has expressed his enthusiasm for a potential return to the beloved pirate franchise. However, the actor recently revealed a surprising admission: he momentarily forgot his involvement in the 2004 film “Troy.”
Forgetting ‘Troy’ and Reflecting on Past Roles
During an appearance on the “Realize Their Lines” series for Variety, Bloom struggled to identify a quote from “Troy,” initially attributing it to “Kingdom of Heaven” or “The Lord of the Rings.” “Do you love me, brother? Will you protect me from every enemy?” was the line in question. Bloom’s reaction was one of surprise, stating, “Oh my God, ‘Troy’. Wow. I think I just erased that movie from my memory.”
He explained this lapse in memory by stating he “didn’t want to be part of the film” and felt the role of Trojan prince Paris conflicted with his personal values. Bloom wasn’t alone in his reservations about “Troy”; both Diane Kruger and Brad Pitt have previously voiced criticisms of the film. Pitt told The New York Times Magazine he took the role of Achilles since he was obligated to after exiting another project.
Looking Ahead to ‘Pirates of the Caribbean 6’
Despite his past experiences, Bloom remains optimistic about the future of the “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise. Speaking at Fan Expo Chicago, he emphasized the importance of a strong script and expressed his desire to see the original cast reunited.
“Everything is in the writing, right? Everything is on the page, and I think there’s definitely, I’m sure there’s a way to create something,” Bloom said, according to Deadline. “I would personally love to see everybody back. I think the way to win on that one is to get everybody back. If they can, and if everybody wanted to move back.”
This sentiment echoes his comments to ScreenRant, where he highlighted the enduring appeal of the original trilogy and the potential for a successful sequel.
Producer Jerry Bruckheimer has confirmed that a script is currently being developed with a role written for Johnny Depp, who famously portrayed Captain Jack Sparrow in all five previous installments. The studio is likewise exploring options for a potential reboot or spin-off, including a female-led version of the story, as noted in Variety.
Bloom believes the key to success lies in bringing back the core cast – himself as Will Turner, Depp as Jack Sparrow, Keira Knightley as Elizabeth Swann, and Geoffrey Rush – if possible. “My thing is, if the script was great and — ideally it was everybody — it’d be kind of like in for a penny, in for a pound, you know,” he added.
