‘One Battle After Another’ Wins Six Oscars, Including Best Picture
Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another was the huge winner at the 98th Academy Awards, taking home six Oscars, including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Adapted Screenplay. The ceremony, held Sunday night, also saw first-time Oscar wins for Michael B. Jordan and Jessie Buckley.

The film’s success included wins for Paul Thomas Anderson as Best Director and for Best Adapted Screenplay. Cassandra Kulukundis, the film’s casting director, received the Academy’s first-ever award for achievement in casting. Sean Penn also won Best Supporting Actor for his role in the film, marking his third Oscar win.

Michael B. Jordan won Best Actor for his performance in Sinners, beating out contenders including Timothée Chalamet and Leonardo DiCaprio. Jessie Buckley was named Best Actress for her role in Hamnet.
A Night of Firsts and Statements
The awards ceremony featured a tie in the Live Action Short Film category, with both The Singers and Two People Exchanging Saliva receiving the award. This was the first tie since 2013, when Zero Dark Thirty and Skyfall tied in the sound editing category. The ceremony also saw political statements made from the stage, with Javier Bardem calling for “No to war and free Palestine” while presenting the award for Best International Feature Film, and David Borenstein of Mr. Nobody Against Putin speaking about complicity and losing one’s country.
