There is a place in Spain, actually only one, where the PSOE calmly faces an investiture. Is Castilla la Mancha. Emiliano García-Page faces his investiture debate in the regional parliament backed by an absolute majority. He muscle in a socialist formation that suffered a bleeding of institutional power in the municipal and regional elections of May 28. The socialist baron, to whom many in the party turned their eyes after the debacle, has taken advantage of the stage and the spotlight to address current national issues such as the decision of the European justice system to confirm the suspension of his immunity.
The Castilian-Manchego leader wanted to send a message to Pedro Sánchez, still president of the Government: “That the Government, of course all the State institutions, apply themselves to make him come [a España Puigdemont]. It would be interesting. Here everyone has to go through the courts of justice when accused of something as serious as this, we are all equal before the law.”
It should be remembered that in the general elections of November 2019, in one of the debates that took place, Pedro Sánchez promised “to bring Puigdemont back to Spain.” In this sense, María Jesús Montero, Minister of Hacienda y number two of the PSOE, told reporters this Wednesday that the decision of the European courts “is magnificent news” and pointed out that “the important thing is that Puigdemont answer to the Spanish courts. That means making himself available to the Spanish courts to be judged on all issues that judges and prosecutors have to point out”.
“The Government is very satisfied,” explained Pilar Llop, Minister of Justice. “This sentence is an accolade, it is an undoubted support for the Spanish institutions, for the Spanish Justice and also for the European Parliament.” Llop wanted to be blunt: “Let’s stop with hot cloths. The citizen Puigdemont must appear before the action of Justice.”
They consider in the Government that the decision of the European justice “shows that Spain is a state of Law” and that in our country “any person who separates from the law has to be judged”.
