Paul Seixas Wins Faun-Ardèche Classic with Dominating Solo Attack

Paul Seixas (Decathlon CMA CGM Team) delivered a stunning performance at the 2026 Faun-Ardèche Classic, winning with a commanding solo attack 41 kilometers from the finish line. The 19-year-old Frenchman showcased remarkable strength and tactical acumen, leaving his rivals trailing as he secured his second professional victory of the season.

Race Overview

The 26th edition of the Faun-Ardèche Classic, held on Saturday, February 28, 2026, featured a challenging 187.6km course around Guilherand-Granges with 11 climbs. Despite a brief escape attempt by a group of eight riders, the breakaway was closely monitored and reeled in with 45 kilometers remaining, setting the stage for a decisive battle among the favorites.

Seixas’ Decisive Attack

Immediately after the breakaway was caught on the Mur de Royes, a 6.8km climb averaging 7.3%, Seixas launched a powerful attack. He initially gained a ten-second advantage, which he steadily extended as he navigated the steep ramps. Matteo Jorgenson (Visma-Lease a Bike), Lenny Martinez (Bahrain Victorious), and Jan Christen (UAE Team Emirates-XRG) attempted to respond, but were unable to maintain the pace.

Jorgenson was the first to fall back, unable to hold Seixas’ wheel on the Mur de Royes. Christen and Martinez followed shortly after, leaving Seixas to ride alone for the final 40 kilometers.

Dominating Solo Ride

Seixas continued to increase his lead, reaching a maximum advantage of 1 minute and 48 seconds at the finish. He even extended his gap on the final ascent of the Val d’Enfer, demonstrating his exceptional form. He finished with a commanding lead, showcasing a level of maturity and power beyond his years.

Final Podium

Jan Christen ultimately outsprinted Lenny Martinez for second place, while Jorgenson finished just off the podium in fourth. The chasing group, including Egan Bernal (Ineos) and Roman Gregoire (Groupama-FDJ), were unable to close the gap.
