The acclaimed Levitation festival is set to return to Austin, Texas, from September 24th to 28th, 2025, boasting a diverse and compelling roster of artists. Notably, indie rock icons Pavement will co-headline the event, marking their first performance since hinting at a prolonged hiatus following their October 2024 show in new York City. This appearance comes amidst a year of renewed attention for the band, fueled by the release of Pavements, a recently premiered documentary offering a unique look into their history.
A New Home for a Growing festival
For the first time, Levitation will be hosted at the Palmer Events Center, a significant upgrade from previous locations. This move allows for an expanded festival experience, incorporating both indoor and outdoor stages, immersive art and video installations, and a vibrant marketplace featuring vintage clothing, record vendors, and a diverse selection of food trucks. The Palmer Events Center’s amenities – including air conditioning, improved restroom facilities, ample parking, and a spacious shaded courtyard – promise a more comfortable and engaging surroundings for attendees. Festival organizers emphasize that the event will still maintain its connection to Austin’s iconic Red River music venues, hosting additional shows in these beloved local clubs.
Beyond Pavement: A Lineup Rich in Talent
The 2025 Levitation lineup extends far beyond Pavement, showcasing a broad spectrum of musical styles. Joining them are heavy hitters like Mastodon and TV on the Radio, alongside critically acclaimed acts such as Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Swervedriver, Built to Spill, and Blonde Redhead. The festival also features performances from Acid Bath, The Sword, Blood Incantation, Wednesday, Destroyer, Frankie and the Witch Fingers, Neal Francis, The Raveonettes, and Boy Harsher, as well as a set from Levitation’s founding band, The Black Angels.
According to a recent report by Pollstar, independent music festivals like Levitation are experiencing a 15% increase in attendance year-over-year, demonstrating a growing appetite for curated musical experiences outside of mainstream events. This trend underscores the festival’s importance within the independent music landscape.
“We’ve been actively seeking a venue capable of supporting a multi-stage festival for years,” explains Rob Fitzpatrick, co-founder and festival director. “The Palmer Events Center provides a substantial leap forward in production quality and offers limitless possibilities for visual enhancements. It’s a beautiful park setting in the heart of the city, and its proximity to downtown allows us to continue supporting the clubs that are integral to Austin’s music scene.”
