Pearly-Thinaah Aim for All-England Glory Amidst Intense Training
PETALING JAYA – Malaysia’s Pearly Tan and M. Thinaah are targeting a historic victory at the All-England Open Badminton Championships, commencing next Tuesday, March 3rd. National women’s doubles head coach Rosman Razak has set a lofty goal for the pair: to win the prestigious tournament, despite acknowledging the significant challenge ahead.
A Historic Pursuit
While Malaysia has a rich history of success at the All-England Championships, a women’s doubles title has remained elusive. No Malaysian women’s pair has ever reached the final of the tournament. Rosman believes that setting a high target is fitting for elite players of their caliber.
Focus on Early Rounds
Rosman emphasizes the importance of successfully navigating the opening two matches. He believes a smooth start will be crucial for building confidence and momentum throughout the tournament. “For me, the first two rounds are very important for them to settle in and adapt to everything, and hopefully the draw will favour us. If they can get past the first two matches, I believe they will grow in confidence,” he stated.
Intense Physical Preparation
To prepare for the demanding competition, Rosman has implemented a rigorous training regime, with approximately 70% of the program dedicated to enhancing the pair’s physical fitness. This focus aims to improve their endurance, strength, and resilience on the court, not only for the All-England Championships but likewise as a foundation for future tournaments.
Addressing Consistency Challenges
Rosman acknowledges that maintaining consistent form remains a key challenge for Pearly-Thinaah, particularly against tactically adaptable opponents from China and Japan. He is working with the pair to develop strategies for overcoming fluctuations in performance and securing victories even when not at their peak.
Opening Match and Expectations
As the second-seeded pair, Pearly Tan and M. Thinaah will begin their All-England campaign against Arisa Igarashi and Chiharu Shida. Rosman firmly believes the pair should aim for the title, stating, “We definitely aim for them to win. Pearly-Thinaah cannot run away from that fact.”
