Brookings, S.D. – September 7, 2025 – A single-engine Beechcraft aircraft crashed on the grounds of the Brookings Regional Airport Saturday morning, injuring all three occupants. Authorities responded to a 911 call at approximately 9:00 a.m. and quickly extinguished a fire that engulfed the plane after the occupants evacuated.

Crash Details & Timeline

The aircraft, a Beechcraft with a capacity for four passengers, whent down roughly an eighth of a mile from the runway and about 75 yards from the southwest gate off 16th Avenue West. According to preliminary reports, the plane was en route to Montana for a personal trip.

The pilot experienced difficulties during takeoff. After reaching an altitude of approximately 200 feet, the plane reportedly suffered a partial engine failure. the pilot attempted to turn the aircraft back towards the airport to land, but the engine subsequently failed fully. Witnesses described the plane as nose-diving into the ground in the southwest corner of the airport property.

Occupant Injuries & medical Treatment

All three individuals on board were able to exit the aircraft before it was consumed by flames. Emergency medical personnel from Brookings Ambulance provided on-site treatment before transporting them to hospitals.

The 32-year-old pilot and a 29-year-old front-seat passenger were airlifted to Sioux Falls for further medical evaluation and treatment.Their injuries are considered non-life-threatening.
A 28-year-old rear-seat passenger is currently receiving treatment at Brookings Hospital. Their injuries are also reported as non-life-threatening.
