Noelia Núñez Outlines PP’s Stance on Middle East Conflict, Criticizes Government’s Response
Former People’s Party (PP) deputy Noelia Núñez recently articulated the PP’s position regarding the ongoing conflict in the Middle East and the actions taken by the US and Israel, while also criticizing the current Spanish government’s approach. Núñez emphasized the PP’s commitment to human rights and international law, distancing the party from unilateral actions.
PP’s Position on the Conflict
According to Núñez, the PP’s stance is “very clear” regarding the situation. She criticized what she perceives as the sole response offered by the Pedro Sánchez government – a consistent “no to war” – arguing that simply opposing war doesn’t equate to supporting peace or addressing the broader implications of the conflict. She stated that no democrat who respects human rights can be in favor of war, but also condemned actions taken by Iran, specifically referencing the treatment of women, and protestors.
Criticism of Government’s Approach
Núñez took issue with what she characterized as a “pseudo pacifist speech” from the Sánchez government, claiming it lacks respect within the country and fails to translate into concrete decisions. She argued that the government’s focus on simply stating “no to war” is insufficient, especially considering the rising energy and fuel prices and the resulting economic hardship for Spanish families. She insisted that measures must be taken to address these consequences, rather than relying solely on a declarative statement.
Addressing Allegations of Support for US and Israel
When directly questioned about whether the PP supports unilateral action by the US and Israel, Núñez firmly stated that the PP always stands with Human Rights and International Law. She then countered by accusing the government of not respecting International Law in the case of Delcy Rodríguez, a Venezuelan politician, being allowed to enter Spain. This claim was challenged during the discussion.
Disagreement Over International Law
A debate ensued regarding the application of International Law, specifically concerning the Rodríguez case and Spain’s position on the Sahara region. Núñez suggested that the government had not respected International Law in both instances, while her interlocutor, Zaida Cantera, disputed these claims, questioning Núñez’s understanding of the relevant UN resolutions and proposals.
