Markus Schleinzer’s historical drama, Rose, starring Sandra Hüller, is gaining significant international traction following its premiere at the 76th Berlin International Film Festival. The film, which earned Hüller the Silver Bear for Best Leading Performance, has secured distribution deals across Europe, Asia, and the Middle East, signaling strong market interest.

Set in the 17th century, Rose follows a mysterious soldier, Rose (Sandra Hüller), who disguises herself as a man and arrives in a secluded Protestant village. Claiming to be the heir to a long-abandoned farmstead, she presents documentation to support her claim, sparking suspicion among the villagers. The film explores themes of identity, belonging, and deception in the aftermath of the Thirty Years’ War.

Critics have lauded the film, with The Hollywood Reporter’s David Rooney calling it “an eloquent demolition of the gender binary.”
