Quest Software Acquires Anetac to Enhance AI-Powered Identity Security
Quest Software, a global leader in data management and cybersecurity, announced on June 17, 2026, the acquisition of Anetac, a provider of AI-driven identity security solutions. The deal aims to bolster Quest’s capabilities in monitoring human, non-human, and agentic identities, addressing a growing threat in enterprise cybersecurity, according to a company statement.
Why the Acquisition Matters for Identity Security
The acquisition comes as enterprises face escalating risks from non-human identities, such as APIs, bots, and service accounts, which now outnumber human users by a ratio of 82:1, according to industry reports. Anetac’s technology provides continuous visibility into these identities, enabling organizations to track access chains, privilege behavior, and potential vulnerabilities in hybrid and AI-driven environments.

“Identity is rapidly emerging as one of the most important security layers in an AI-driven world,” said Prashant Mehrotra and Paul Huber, partners at Clearlake Capital, which backs Quest. “Anetac’s capabilities further strengthen Quest’s ability to deliver differentiated identity security solutions for customers globally.”
How Anetac’s Technology Addresses Emerging Threats
Anetac’s platform extends beyond traditional identity management by focusing on agentic identities—autonomous AI systems that can act independently. These identities pose unique risks, as they may bypass conventional security measures. By integrating Anetac’s tools, Quest aims to provide customers with real-time behavioral intelligence to detect anomalies and enforce least-privilege access.
“With this shift accelerating rapidly, the need for real-time behavioral intelligence and governance has never been greater,” Mehrotra and Huber added. “We believe Quest is uniquely positioned to help organizations address this challenge.”
The Role of AI in Modern Identity Management
The rise of agentic AI has created a “new class of identity risk,” according to Quest CEO Tim Page. “Most security teams are not equipped to see these risks,” he said. Anetac’s continuous discovery and classification tools help organizations reduce risk, meet compliance requirements, and improve resilience against identity-based threats.

Quest’s platform now offers a more comprehensive approach to identity security, combining Anetac’s AI-driven insights with its existing tools for data governance and cybersecurity. This integration is expected to enhance customer visibility and control across hybrid cloud and on-premises environments.
What’s Next for Quest and Anetac?
The acquisition positions Quest to compete more effectively in the identity security market, a sector projected to grow at a compound annual rate of 12.3% through 2030, according to market research firm MarketsandMarkets. With Clearlake’s backing, Quest plans to expand its AI-focused solutions, targeting enterprises adopting agentic AI at scale.
“This acquisition strengthens our position in identity security within Microsoft ecosystems,” Page said. “It also accelerates our mission to build the foundation for enterprise AI through trusted, secure identities.”
For now, the focus remains on integrating Anetac’s technology into Quest’s platform, with customers expected to see tangible improvements in security posture and compliance by mid-2027.
