Raven-Symoné Forgets Her Own Song on ‘Tea Time’ Podcast

Raven-Symoné experienced a hilarious moment of recognition failure during a recent episode of her podcast, “Tea Time With Raven and Miranda.” While playing a song-lyric identification game, the “That’s So Raven” actress was stumped by a set of lyrics that turned out to be from her own song, “Double Dutch Bus.”

The lyrics in question were: “I gotta walk to work 15 blocks. Just start it, I already got a hole in my socks.”

Initially perplexed, Raven guessed, “What the hell? This is definitely somebody white.” A producer quickly corrected her, leading to a back-and-forth exchange.

“It’s not?” Raven responded. “That’s crazy.”

“That was probably the funniest thing you just could’ve said,” the producer replied.

“Why, ‘cause it’s the Blackest person in the world?” Raven asked before guessing, “Kanye!”

After further prompting, Raven admitted, “I don’t [know]. What is it? I’m literally blank.”

The producer then revealed the song’s title and artist: “This is ‘Double Dutch Bus’ by Raven-Symoné.”

Raven-Symoné burst into laughter, visibly shocked. “Oh my God. ‘It’s obviously somebody white,’” she said, cackling at her earlier remark. “Oh my God. I sang that?”

“Double Dutch Bus” was originally a cover of Frankie Smith’s 1981 funk song. Raven-Symoné recorded her version for the soundtrack of the 2008 film “College Road Trip” and it similarly served as the lead single from her fourth album, “Raven-Symoné.”

Raven-Symoné retired from touring in 2008 but continued performing live, including a role in “Sister Act” on Broadway in the early 2010s. She later returned to television with “Raven’s Home” in 2017 and appeared as Black Widow on season 2 of “The Masked Singer” in 2019, telling Entertainment Weekly she didn’t try to disguise her voice, enjoying the experience for her own personal enjoyment.

The clip of Raven’s song-recognition fail is available to watch on YouTube.
