Ford’s Return to Formula 1: A Family Legacy and Technological Drive

Detroit, Michigan – Ford officially marked its return to Formula 1 racing with the presentation of the 2026 liveries for the Red Bull and Racing Bulls single-seaters at its Detroit headquarters. The event signified the solidified partnership between Red Bull, Racing Bulls, and the American automotive giant, initiating a new era of collaboration in motorsport. While the showcased vehicles were not the final versions expected for pre-season testing, the unveiling highlighted subtle color variations compared to the 2025 models.

The meaning of Ford’s re-entry was powerfully articulated by Will Ford, heir to the Ford family and General Manager of Ford Racing, in a passionate letter. He described the return as more than just a sporting endeavor, framing it as the completion of “unfinished family business” after a 22-year absence from Formula 1,dating back to the 2004 Australian Grand prix.

“This is not a game, a hobby,” Ford stated, emphasizing the intense dedication and technical complexities inherent in the sport. “It is a battlefield.” he underscored the crucial role of the 2026 engine progress, highlighting its complexity and the relentless effort being invested in its creation.

Beyond the racetrack, Ford emphasized the direct link between Formula 1 innovation and the company’s consumer vehicles. “the high-voltage systems and battery software we’re refining for 2026 are the true underlying designs of the cars and trucks our customers will drive every day,” Ford explained. “When you buy a Ranger Raptor or an F-150, you’re buying race data and grit.”

With a resounding declaration, Ford affirmed, “To those who’ve waited two decades, I say, we’re back. The Blue Oval is back where it belongs. Now, let’s go racing.”
