Netflix has already announced the release date of The Snow Societynew film directed by Juan Antonio Bayona. The film will arrive on the streaming platform on January 4but first it will be in theaters from December 15.
The Snow Society it is based on real facts and portrays the tragedy of the Andes, when a plane crashed in the mountain range. “In 1972he flight 571 from Uruguayan Air Forcechartered to take a rugby team to Chile, crashed in the heart of the Andes. Only 29 of its 45 passengers survived the accident. Trapped in one of the most hostile and inaccessible environments on the planet, they must resort to extreme measures to stay alive“, reads the official synopsis.
Enzo Vogrincic, Matías Recalt, Agustín Pardella y Esteban Bigliardi, among others, star in the feature film. Bayona has written the script in collaboration with Bernat Vilaplana, Jaime Marques y Nicolas Casariego from the novel by Pablo Vierci.
The filming of The Snow Society took place in Sierra Nevada (Andalusia), Montevideo (Uruguay) and in different locations in the Andes, including The Valley of Tearsreal location where the story happened.
The Snow Society closed the 80th edition of the Venice International Film Festivalin addition to receiving the Audience Award at the San Sebastian International Film Festival in its 71st edition. Furthermore, the production has been selected to represent Spain in the 96th edition of the Oscar Awards.
