Ricardo Pepi Transfer to Fulham Collapses Over Deal Timing
A proposed $42 million transfer that would have sent United States striker Ricardo Pepi from PSV Eindhoven to Fulham has fallen through due to a disagreement over when responsibility for the player would officially transfer, according to reports on March 21, 2026.
Deal Breakdown
PSV Eindhoven director of football affairs Earnest Stewart revealed that despite reaching an agreement on the transfer fee – reported to be around €40 million ($46m) by ESPN – the clubs were unable to finalize the timing of the transfer. Fulham reportedly wanted the option to withdraw from the deal if Pepi sustained an injury before the summer transfer window officially opened.
“no agreement was reached on the moment when responsibility for the player would be transferred,” Stewart said.
Previous Attempts and Medical Examination
Fulham had previously made a bid for Pepi in January, but the transfer was halted due to valuation differences and PSV’s need to secure a replacement. Pepi traveled to London to undergo a medical examination with Fulham, indicating the deal was nearing completion before the final snag.
Future Possibilities
While the immediate transfer is off, sources indicate that both clubs could revisit the deal during the summer transfer window. Pepi has recently returned from a broken arm sustained in early January and has scored two goals in four games since his return.
Pepi’s Reaction
Stewart noted that Pepi was frustrated by the situation but expects the player to remain professional. “Ricardo really wanted this move. It’s mainly a frustrating situation for Ricardo,” Stewart said.
