Rotterdam Shooting Linked to Failed Drug Deal

A 34-year-old man, identified as Yasin, a known criminal, was fatally shot in Rotterdam-Delfshaven on Thursday following a drug deal gone wrong, according to sources cited by Rijnmond and Headliner.nl. The incident occurred on the Indrapoerastraat around 4:50 PM local time.

Details of the Incident

The shooting stemmed from a “rip deal,” a term used for transactions involving illegal goods, specifically a planned sale of kilograms of hard drugs. The buyers allegedly refused to pay, leading to a violent confrontation. Reports indicate that after Yasin was shot, an accomplice fired down from a stairwell at the fleeing buyers.

Evidence and Investigation

Following the shooting, the alleged accomplice reportedly attempted to dispose of drugs by flushing them down the toilet, fearing arrest. He was subsequently apprehended, identified as a 35-year-old Rotterdam resident. Police located the getaway vehicle, a dark gray Audi A3, parked on the Schans in Rotterdam-West later that evening.

Ongoing Search for Suspects

Authorities are continuing to search for the shooter and the driver of the getaway vehicle. Twenty detectives are currently assigned to the case, and police are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

Understanding “Rip Deals”

A “rip deal” refers to an exchange of stolen goods or illegal substances, often involving a degree of deception or risk. Scam-Detector.com explains that these deals can quickly escalate into violence. Even as the term is also used in currency exchange scams – as seen in cases investigated by Spanish authorities involving Italian-Croatian criminal groups – the Rotterdam incident involved a drug transaction.
