Dublin Pub Ryan’s Licence Extension Refused Following Garda Objections
Ryan’s, a well-known pub on Camden Street in Dublin 2, has been denied a licence extension that would have allowed it to serve drinks in an adjoining outdoor area. The refusal follows “extensive” objections raised by the Gardaí, Ireland’s national police service.
According to a Circuit Court judgment delivered this week, Nitram Nayr Limited, the company trading as Ryan’s at 92 Lower Camden Street, Dublin 2, sought a new publican’s licence to expand its premises. The proposed extension included a rear enclosed yard lane and an outdoor bar within a covered area known as the “Abattoir,” as well as parts of former buildings on Camden Row, including an enclosed laneway. The Currency reports that Judge John O’Connor made the decision.
Previous Use of the Area
The area in question reportedly operated as an unlicensed premises, commonly known as a shebeen, for many years prior to the application. This history likely contributed to the Gardaí’s objections.
Judge John O’Connor
While the article references Judge John O’Connor presiding over the case, another Garda John O’Connor serves with the Roscommon Community Policing Unit. This Garda O’Connor was involved in community policing activities in Roscommon in December 2020.
Ongoing Garda Investigation
Gardaí are currently appealing for information regarding missing Dublin man John O’Connor. This is an unrelated case to the pub licence refusal.
