Saint Joseph’s Men’s Tennis Falls to Old Dominion

MERION STATION, Pa. – The Saint Joseph’s men’s tennis team suffered a 4-0 defeat against the 70th-ranked Old Dominion Monarchs on Thursday.

How It Happened

• Damir Abdusamadov and Santiago Valle were engaged in a closely contested doubles match, tied 4-4 in a tiebreaker after reaching a 6-6 score, but Old Dominion secured the doubles point by winning the second and third doubles flights.
• The Monarchs clinched the overall victory by winning the first three singles matches to conclude. The Hawks pushed the first two singles matches to a decisive third set, but those matches were still in progress when play was halted.

“The guys came to battle against a perennial NCAA tournament team today,” said head coach Jeff Puhan. “We place ourselves in position to win the doubles point. We split on first and second singles and had chances at three, four, and five. I’m really proud of these guys for battling and excited for the rest of the season!”

The Hawks will resume competition on Saturday, taking on Chestnut Hill and Coppin State.
