SALEM – People wiht diabetes suffering from hard-to-heal foot ulcers now have access to a groundbreaking new treatment available at Salem Regional Medical Center’s (SRMC) Wound Healing Center (WHC).

The Medical Center’s WHC is the first and only facility in the region to offer the Reapplix 3C Patch®, an advanced and personalized wound care solution made using the patient’s own blood.

How it Works

The 3C Patch® Wound Management System is an innovative new wound care method that concentrates living cells from the patient’s own blood and than delivers them to the wound. Every 3C Patch® is unique and 100% natural as it is indeed made from the patient’s own blood sample and nothing else.

“A blood sample is drawn from the patient into a special device and processed to form a solid patch made up entirely of the patient’s own cells, which are essential to healing,” explained Athena Beis, M.D.,Medical Director of the WHC. “The patch is then applied directly to the wound. It is reapplied again at the patient’s next treatment, which is typically the following week.”

“For most patients, each patch can be prepared in about 20 minutes during an office visit. While every patient is different, most people begin to see an enhancement in their wound after two or three patch applications. The total number of treatments needed will depend on the size of the wound and how it responds to the therapy. When patients see improvement and healing in ulcers that have been present for months or years, they become even more excited by the results.”

Extensive clinical research studies have shown that with the 3C Patch®, wounds are 89% more likely to heal compared with the best standard of care. The 3C Patch is FDA-approved and covered by Medicare.

“Chronic wounds such as diabetic foot ulcers can not only impact a person’s quality of life but also lead to serious complications, such as infections or even possible removal of the affected limb,” Beis added. “We’re pleased to offer this one-of-a-kind treatment option to our patients and greatly increase their chances of healing diabetic wounds, especially those t
