Samsung Galaxy S26 to Gain AirDrop Compatibility via Quick Share
Samsung has officially confirmed that the Galaxy S26 series will soon support AirDrop file sharing through Google’s Quick Share. This highly anticipated feature will allow seamless file transfers between Galaxy S26 devices and Apple iPhones, iPads, and Macs.
AirDrop Support Coming First to Galaxy S26
Choi Won-joon, COO of Samsung’s mobile division, announced the AirDrop compatibility during a press conference in Japan, as reported by Android Authority and 9to5Google. The feature will debut with the Galaxy S26 series and will be progressively rolled out to other Galaxy devices through subsequent software updates.
How AirDrop on Android Works
Samsung is implementing AirDrop support through Google’s Quick Share. This allows Galaxy devices to appear as available recipients within the AirDrop interface on Apple devices. Currently, to facilitate cross-platform sharing, devices need to be set to “Everyone” mode, as noted by 9to5Google.
Addressing a Long-Standing Friction Point
Currently, sharing files between Android and Apple devices often requires workarounds like third-party apps or web-based transfer tools. AirDrop compatibility aims to eliminate this inconvenience, providing a quick and seamless file-sharing experience, according to Android Central.
Google Paved the Way
Google initially introduced AirDrop compatibility via Quick Share on the Pixel 10 series in November 2025. The feature subsequently expanded to the Pixel 9 series, demonstrating the feasibility of cross-platform AirDrop support on Android, as Android Authority reports.
What This Means for Users
The addition of AirDrop support to the Galaxy S26 series and future Samsung devices will significantly improve the user experience for those who frequently share files with iPhone, iPad, or Mac users. It streamlines the process and removes the need for potentially cumbersome workarounds.
A specific timeline for the rollout to devices beyond the Galaxy S26 remains unclear.
