ATLANTA – The University of Virginia women’s swimming and diving team secured its sixth consecutive NCAA team championship on Saturday, March 21, 2026, at the McAuley Aquatic Center in Atlanta, Georgia. The Cavaliers’ continued success was highlighted by a standout performance from freshman Sara Curtis in the 100-yard freestyle, where she broke the freshman record and cemented her place among the nation’s elite swimmers.
Curtis Makes Waves in 100 Freestyle
Sara Curtis delivered a remarkable performance in the 100-yard freestyle, finishing with a time of 45.77 seconds. This achievement not only earned her a bronze medal but likewise established a fresh freshman record, surpassing Gretchen Walsh’s previous mark of 46.05 seconds set in 2022 Virginia Sports.
Curtis’s race strategy was notably balanced, with a split of 22.16 seconds for the first 50 yards and 23.61 seconds for the second, demonstrating a strong finish. Her time positions her as the fifth-fastest all-time in the event SwimSwam.
