Saudi Arabia Masters 2024: Prize money, Format, and Key Players
The second edition of the Saudi Arabia Masters begins in Jeddah on the Red Sea on August 8th. 144 participants will compete for a prize pool of 2.647 million euros, with 805,000 euros awarded to the two finalists. The top 16 world-ranked players are set to participate in the round of the last 32. Judd Trump is the defending champion, having won a dramatic 10:9 final against Mark Williams in 2023.From the round of the last 32,players will receive the same prize money as at the World Championship. World Snooker was unable to increase the World Championship prize fund last year, leading to the Saudi Masters being officially designated as the “fourth major tournament” due to its financial backing.128 players have been nominated by World Snooker: 124 professionals and four qualifiers from the amateur ranks, including German hopeful Lukas Kappel, currently number one in the latest Q School ranking. Additionally, 16 wildcard players from Saudi Arabia and other countries in the region have been invited by the organizers.
Not all players competing in the parallel Olympic World Games in Chengdu are participating, including 2017 gold medalist Kyren Wilson, women’s world champion bai Yulu, and world number 13 Xiao Guodong. However, world number 17 Allister Carter is among the top 16 players in Jeddah.
