Savannah Guthrie Plans Return to ‘Today’ Show Amid Continued Search for Missing Mother
Savannah Guthrie intends to return to NBC’s “Today” show, according to two sources close to the network, though the timing remains uncertain as the search for her missing mother, Nancy Guthrie, continues. The announcement comes after nearly a month of Guthrie being absent from her hosting duties.
Guthrie has not hosted “Today” since the last week of January. Her mother, Nancy, was reported missing on February 1, 2026. The ongoing search has been “agonizing and all-consuming” for Guthrie, but returning to function may offer a sense of routine during this difficult time, sources say.
An NBC source stated that the “Today” family will “welcome her back with open arms on her timeline.” Guthrie, 54, is considered a central figure on the highly profitable morning show. Her mother’s disappearance garnered national attention, and Guthrie’s public pleas for information have resonated with many.
Earlier this week, Guthrie acknowledged the possibility that her 84-year-vintage mother “may already be gone,” stating, “And if this is what is to be, then we will all accept it,” but emphasized the need to locate her mother. To aid in the search, Guthrie announced a reward of up to $1 million for information leading to her mother’s recovery and a $500,000 donation to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
Hoda Kotb, who previously departed the show in January 2025, returned to co-host “Today” to fill in for Guthrie. Kotb was already scheduled to cover the Winter Olympics in Milan, but her return to Studio 1A was prompted by Guthrie’s absence and the search for her mother.
Law enforcement continues to investigate Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the FBI at 1-800-CALL-FBI or tips.fbi.gov, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department at (520-351-4900), or 88-CRIME.
