Sean Combs has officially filed a notice of appeal challenging his conviction on two counts of transportation for the purpose of engaging in prostitution and his 50-month prison sentence. The two-page notice, submitted in Manhattan federal court, lists Alexandra A.E. Shapiro as Combs’ appellate attorney, following her vow to challenge the verdict after the Oct. 3 sentencing. More detailed filings outlining Combs’ arguments are expected to be submitted to the Second Circuit Court of Appeals, where a three-judge panel will review the case.

Combs, 55, has been in custody as his arrest last year. He was convicted on July 2 of violating the Mann Act, but acquitted of racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking charges related to allegations made by his ex-girlfriends, Casandra “Cassie” Ventura and Jane.

During the seven-week trial, Ventura and Jane testified about feeling compelled to engage in sexual acts with male escorts while Combs allegedly directed and filmed them, describing these encounters as “freak-offs.” Ventura also testified about experiencing physical and emotional abuse during their relationship, including beatings and threats.

Despite Combs’ defence arguing that the acquittals on more serious charges should preclude consideration of the women’s claims, Judge Arun Subramanian cited the allegations of violence and exploitation as notable factors in imposing the 50-month sentence.Combs’ defense had requested a more lenient sentence. myself right now. I’ve been stripped down to nothing. I really am truly sorry for it all, no matter what they say.”

Turning to his six adult kids and his 84-year-old mother, Janice, an emotional Combs apologized again.“I failed as a father, I’m so sorry,” he said. “I failed you as a son. I’m sorry. You taught me better. You raised me better.”
