Sensei Ryuta Arakaki Visits Ushuaia for Prestigious Karate Seminar
The city of Ushuaia is set to host a significant event in the world of traditional karate. In June 2026, Sensei Ryuta Arakaki, president of the Asociación Mundial de Karate Do Okinawense Shorin Ryu Kodokan, will arrive in Tierra del Fuego from Okinawa, Japan, the birthplace of traditional karate. This visit marks one of the most important events for the Kodokan school in the past decade, highlighting the deep roots of martial arts in the region.
A Legacy of Excellence
Sensei Ryuta Arakaki is not only a prominent figure in the global karate community but also the son of the late Sensei Isamu Arakaki, founder of the Kodokan lineage and a leading figure in Okinawan karate. His visit underscores the continued commitment to preserving and promoting traditional karate practices.
The delegation will include Shatoshi Kadekaru, a member of the association’s Technical Council, and Sensei Luis Vázquez, the national technical director of the Kodokan school in Argentina. This gathering of experts aims to share knowledge and strengthen the bonds within the karate community.
A Return to Ushuaia
This will not be Arakaki’s first visit to Ushuaia. In 2013, he conducted a major seminar at the Polideportivo Augusto Lasserre, leaving a lasting impact on local practitioners. His return has generated significant anticipation among Kodokan members and the broader karate community in Tierra del Fuego.
The Kodokan school has been active in Ushuaia since 1994, focusing on the development of children, youth, and adults. Local instructors Federico Szatynski and Eduardo Ast emphasize that this visit is a continuation of the school’s long-standing legacy, honoring the contributions of former provincial representative Sensei Marcelo Chávez.
Events and Opportunities
Sensei Ryuta Arakaki is scheduled to arrive on Saturday, June 6, 2026. The main seminar will take place on Sunday, June 7, at the Casa del Deporte. The event is open to all Kodokan members and practitioners from other local karate schools, with invitations already sent to participants in Ushuaia and Río Grande.
Additional activities will include a special practice session with Kodokan black belts, as well as meetings and social events. The organization has confirmed that the event is free and open to the public, encouraging broad
